Hi, all. It’s been awhile since you’ve heard from me regarding the Monster adapter. In deference to your time, I’ll make this short.
After 2 tries I was able to load Firmware v0.2. The first lens I tried it on was the Minolta 50mm f/2.8 Macro lens. It worked like it did with all the other lenses – slow, a little jerky, but accurate. It’s useful when the focus is almost there, and takes forever to get there otherwise.
Then I tried the Minolta 80-200 f/2.8 G (the white version), and this is where things fell apart. It hunted around the focus point but never got there. Then my A7R IV crashed and it took 3 battery removals to regain control of it. I sent the video of this behavior to China, and was informed his didn’t work that way, but he has been hearing from other users about this very problem. He’ll have a fix in a couple of days. That was last week.
I have to tell you that since the introduction of the LA-EA5 (which I have on order) my enthusiasm for this project has waned considerably. I said I won’t be attaching my name to it unless it’s “Ready for Prime Time” and that may take months, if ever. I’ve said in the past how I don’t approve of testing software using early-adopting customers. I will tell you that when my LA-EA5 arrives I’ll be making a video doing a side-by-side comparison. If people will be buying the Monster Adapter, it’s important to set expectations properly.
If you’re looking for something faster than the LA-EA4, this won’t be it. But it may be your best choice if you don’t want to invest in an A7R IV or A6600. As of today I will not be taking on this project. If you want to buy one now you can get it here:
